I had some time today to catch up on block 10. All the blocks have been posted now, so I have 2 more to put together then I'll be done. Then I get to put them all together and do a happy dance for my finished quilt top! </span><br />

I've had a crazy few weeks and I'm just now settled down. The last two weeks I've been moving... yay!! (Other than that whole packing/unpacking crap) I'm now mostly moved into our new place and I'm already in love. The best part...??? <i>My own sewing room!!!!!!!!!!!</i> Yep - no more sewing in the dining room. I told my boyfriend he could have the garage all to himself if I could have a bedroom all to myself. It works out very well for us both -especially since I have an auto start in my truck and don't need the garage! Here are a few pictures of the sewing room so far: (I'm not quite done unpacking so it's a bit bare... It's my major WIP right now!)</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuSuqS7H50YxoxSGU6jdadVGnuWVmYgJF4iZzR_9YQ6AkFiB6jSiGcYCDwOlO5wCfwhZyNGW09g4LysiTuuU42Rso53ySgMqBT2R5h3XNauzVHLPPNCimMan_g9rpGQnByJXIetxCMAUGo/s1600/IMG_4616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuSuqS7H50YxoxSGU6jdadVGnuWVmYgJF4iZzR_9YQ6AkFiB6jSiGcYCDwOlO5wCfwhZyNGW09g4LysiTuuU42Rso53ySgMqBT2R5h3XNauzVHLPPNCimMan_g9rpGQnByJXIetxCMAUGo/s320/IMG_4616.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I'm a bit of a geek, and I <i>love</i> me some Wizard of Oz. I wanted my Oz collection in my sewing room for inspiration. I'm also hanging up my Rob Thomas and Johnny Depp posters - not much better inspiration than that kind of beauty! Hehe. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />

</span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It's 90% if my Pure quilt. I'm using the <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/12/sugar-pop-n-change-quilt.html">Sugar Pop N Change</a> pattern from Moda Bake Shop. I'm not sure about my sashing color yet. My sister's two best friends both want this quilt when it's done...so I might have to make one more. I think since one of them is male and the other female I'll choose sashing colors by who I'll give it to. I think a cream sashing would be beautiful, as would a dark brown. I also love just crisp white sashing.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />

</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I wish I could make a dozen quilts from the Pure line. I'm incredibly in love with it!! I think I'm going to make a baby blanket with it just in case I have a baby boy some day.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also got some <i>awesome</i> things in the mail the last few days. I've been wanting color cards forever. My local quilt shops do not carry much in the way of solids, so I have really no way of knowing which solids to order online when I need them (and I'm a huge fan of solids!)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />

</span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is the kona color card that I ordered from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sewfreshfabrics">Sew Fresh Fabrics</a>. They had 4 and posted on Facebook that they had them listed and I was lucky enough to get one for $16.95 (They are $29.99 some places online!). I'd definitely recommend 'liking' them on Facebook so you can get in on some good deals.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'd like to add: I'm in no way affiliated with any of the companies I talk about, but I will absolutely share if I find a shop or company that I love and <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sewfreshfabrics">Sew Fresh Fabrics</a> is one of those shops!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK9zYooF4oZdLun-LOnhSAlfe2hOPFS60Ynnevopt4pt95_2Wxt4ID3PDkAl-h_XN2eJVMViTLm5VOeyc3eKc63RlpH84V8OBQ7H5KDc2VUKdeXfsKgZIvWzbmt1pej4-t6cCXbaphxmS8/s1600/IMG_4639.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK9zYooF4oZdLun-LOnhSAlfe2hOPFS60Ynnevopt4pt95_2Wxt4ID3PDkAl-h_XN2eJVMViTLm5VOeyc3eKc63RlpH84V8OBQ7H5KDc2VUKdeXfsKgZIvWzbmt1pej4-t6cCXbaphxmS8/s320/IMG_4639.JPG" width="240" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And this is the Bella Solids color card I ordered from <a href="http://thimblea.ipower.com/store/index.html">Thimbleanna</a> for $19.00. They were great and the delivery was super fast!! Now I just have to control myself from ordering a bolt in every color!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm also looking into taking up a new hobby along with my sewing. I've found a few great blogs about thrifting and refinishing furniture and such. I ran across <a href="http://vintagerevivals.blogspot.com/">Vintage Revivals</a> the other day - and literally spent 2 hours looking through every post. I was so, so inspired. So my new project will be refinishing this coffee table that I rescued from the burn pile a few years ago</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk3Z3TECvyWe2-w89Vlr0km1Jmcr4QaC9an5wITtQClhqusbD4lwilV5nxRmFCnK8Ji0B20xQGfXF-iM_7jxGGW2kK1VeM8TwZq1Rm4zh92kpxJ5O9O5MNwIyOJPtQsHaOYOMJjEnrUkZb/s1600/IMG_4646.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk3Z3TECvyWe2-w89Vlr0km1Jmcr4QaC9an5wITtQClhqusbD4lwilV5nxRmFCnK8Ji0B20xQGfXF-iM_7jxGGW2kK1VeM8TwZq1Rm4zh92kpxJ5O9O5MNwIyOJPtQsHaOYOMJjEnrUkZb/s320/IMG_4646.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I want to refinish it with a dark wood stain and maybe get one of those awesome vinyl decals for the top. It is very sturdy and it's a great size... it just happens to be in kind of rough shape. So this will be what I'm working on this week along with finishing my Pure quilt top and catching up on the <a href="http://moosequilts.blogspot.com/2010/09/layer-cake-quilt-along-2010.html">LCQA</a>. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If you guys are still reading - thank you - and I have a question. How do you name your quilts? Like for this Pure quilt I'm using a pattern, so do you usually use part of the pattern name, or is it customary to name it something completely original? Do you even name quilts that you make from a pattern? Or is it just quilts you design?? I've never named a quilt before, and I just don't have any idea of how people usually do it! I know I've seen some fabric line names and such - I just didn't know if there was a system or something 'normal' that people do.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Thanks!! Happy WIP Wednesday! I'm so glad to be back in blogland and I can't wait to see what everyone has been up to since I was here last.</span></div>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-87398739058882055472011-02-09T02:59:00.000-08:002011-02-09T02:59:12.444-08:00WiP Wednesday 02-09-11<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hello everyone :) <span style="color: #134f5c;">I'm back after a bit of a break. We've had some time to heal from our recently family sadness, and it's definitely still a struggle to accept that he's really gone. Acceptance will come in time.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #134f5c;">I have been being productive since I last posted - I just haven't had much time or energy to blog. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;">I finally finished my dragonfly wall hanging that I've been working on for way too long.</span><br />
<br />

</div><div align="left"><span style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Verdana;">I've also been working on my hexagons, and I got one full flower done a few nights ago. </span></div><div align="left"><br />

Last week my 14 year old nephew was hit by a truck outside of his house in Washington. Because of the extent of his injuries, he was put into a medically induced coma. On Wednesday an MRI showed no brain function. They took him off life support yesterday. I know he's in a better place now, but our grief is deep. He will be greatly missed. When he was little, if he was upset or scared he used to say "The new kids are coming," like the New Kids on the Block were his personal body guards. It was my favorite thing ever. Hopefully the New Kids came to see him off in his dreams...</em></span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #741b47;">On a much lighter note, I was able to focus my sadness into some productivity last night while I couldn't sleep. I am a bit behind on the sliced coins quilt along (click the button to the right to join the fun!) but last night I got all my coins sliced.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6ZEZNrY6cv8iHrhBFd_gfMDtU8-c_FcBsJSr5anBNN9oblOpI6KBoRwGG0WCABulg4LWFKtiprEeCrojrnxyq4xF6E84Jn2VTBhE_tXU57QlqzhS1K_kO_NuqjHEO1cDo80n_pGSYjKDk/s1600/IMG_4454.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #741b47;"><img border="0" height="400" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6ZEZNrY6cv8iHrhBFd_gfMDtU8-c_FcBsJSr5anBNN9oblOpI6KBoRwGG0WCABulg4LWFKtiprEeCrojrnxyq4xF6E84Jn2VTBhE_tXU57QlqzhS1K_kO_NuqjHEO1cDo80n_pGSYjKDk/s400/IMG_4454.JPG" width="300" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><span style="color: #741b47;">I didn't really go into the slicing with much of a plan. I used my 9.5x9.5" ruler to figure out what coin width would look good on each part of the fabric. The smallest coins I cut were 2" and I cut some in each inch increment from 2-6". I did find two spots that a 7" coin looked best, so I just went with that. I used 10 fat quarters, so I'm sure I won't be using all my coins for the front, but I do love pieced backs. Here's a shot of some of my fabrics all laid out</span><br />
<br />

I can't believe it's Wednesday again! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #134f5c;">I did my very first machine quilting this week! Yay! I was really nervous so I decided just to do something simple. I quilted my wall hanging that I've been working on for just this purpose. Here it is all basted:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_J_4_W7NMDylQxfuoERfufwrttliP53TgeDbPXdNP9JBK17u0Bg1oAShh80NjPgyaQ-TNvZoDZ8Zcl9OFAGUOyxTajoBty1-N8ja_83QkgVT_RqCoaA86pcvQHHrNQyQgIHRPaMUju0dR/s1600/IMG_4402.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #134f5c;"><img border="0" height="400" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_J_4_W7NMDylQxfuoERfufwrttliP53TgeDbPXdNP9JBK17u0Bg1oAShh80NjPgyaQ-TNvZoDZ8Zcl9OFAGUOyxTajoBty1-N8ja_83QkgVT_RqCoaA86pcvQHHrNQyQgIHRPaMUju0dR/s400/IMG_4402.JPG" width="367" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><span style="color: #134f5c;">I was going to leave this plain but I decided to applique a few dragonflies on the front. There are actually dragonflies in one of the prints, so I just traced one of them on photoshop and printed out the pattern that way. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKhXPcbiHvqaKpzvfdncvZYpcCRU0YYVKipKk26_C5D6a-OPKuU9xTNTewhvkuwTgSQ4LZerLg0DSW3YbtbY9MwCWj6PXdmXeR_ofSAjG49Ri0oUcBknYsFBaSK4IYNS8G95L2oeTG_fMn/s1600/IMG_4404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #134f5c;"><img border="0" height="300" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKhXPcbiHvqaKpzvfdncvZYpcCRU0YYVKipKk26_C5D6a-OPKuU9xTNTewhvkuwTgSQ4LZerLg0DSW3YbtbY9MwCWj6PXdmXeR_ofSAjG49Ri0oUcBknYsFBaSK4IYNS8G95L2oeTG_fMn/s400/IMG_4404.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div><br />
<span style="color: #134f5c;">Then I just used my walking foot to quilt straight lines 1/4 of an inch from each seam. I used monofilament because of the contrast in the fabrics (I couldn't find one that would blend all the way down or acroos). </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuOlJGkPJY8LRzYsBOzxjAh2yomwbHeAUGAxSgA612B8zeVj2lwmrgXEFEVvYlvfzvv_AMSZ5jloz26_gnT_RkJQg-6NTfMhMcNy9ajX8WFvlB1iBzZWJqeTGPrQy0wdJU9eob7v3lfZ8j/s1600/IMG_4411.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #134f5c;"><img border="0" height="400" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuOlJGkPJY8LRzYsBOzxjAh2yomwbHeAUGAxSgA612B8zeVj2lwmrgXEFEVvYlvfzvv_AMSZ5jloz26_gnT_RkJQg-6NTfMhMcNy9ajX8WFvlB1iBzZWJqeTGPrQy0wdJU9eob7v3lfZ8j/s400/IMG_4411.JPG" width="300" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq0vN12Mjr939nD3WToa7G8vh-I3zotkYO41Y7_YUcKmhPXpfGpDxohIPd_Zf3Yrhmd1ifZx0zbcV3lA-qO4KohvozQR-BC7v_l7Qy3Cv8jOF7ouZzb5X0I8PG6bAxjxzZPa50iLeV_2mV/s1600/IMG_4412.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #134f5c;"><img border="0" height="400" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq0vN12Mjr939nD3WToa7G8vh-I3zotkYO41Y7_YUcKmhPXpfGpDxohIPd_Zf3Yrhmd1ifZx0zbcV3lA-qO4KohvozQR-BC7v_l7Qy3Cv8jOF7ouZzb5X0I8PG6bAxjxzZPa50iLeV_2mV/s400/IMG_4412.JPG" width="300" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="color: #134f5c;">I am very pleased with how it turned out. I'm nervous about binding it though. I've never bound anything bigger than a mug rug.</span></div><div align="left"><br />
</div><div align="left"><span style="color: #134f5c;">I also finished block 7 for the layer cake quilt along (see button in sidebar.) I am in love with this block design!!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjERDz_ibaa_hrSCuMKY2VDhwgIB1UH87easyRKXKJq-W2Yg6s0cQIBk1GR5jlZYaqcCZIFixOc9B45__cm_v0BBgdp0f1zsKWKbzEfpOLCU3hkHwX9vnwcCzZ-IHwenbBTXcS1Or2jmgEi/s1600/IMG_4432.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #134f5c;"><img border="0" height="312" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjERDz_ibaa_hrSCuMKY2VDhwgIB1UH87easyRKXKJq-W2Yg6s0cQIBk1GR5jlZYaqcCZIFixOc9B45__cm_v0BBgdp0f1zsKWKbzEfpOLCU3hkHwX9vnwcCzZ-IHwenbBTXcS1Or2jmgEi/s320/IMG_4432.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><span style="color: #134f5c;">So that's it for this week. Happy Wednesday everyone!!</span> <div align="left"></div>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-61396126802794092402011-01-19T14:55:00.000-08:002011-01-19T14:55:06.392-08:00WiP Wednesday 1-19-11<span style="color: #741b47;">Another Wednesday already?! Its been an interesting week for me. I stopped drinking Coke, which is a much bigger deal if you know I usually drink 6-8 every day. I know its not healthy and my boyfriend and I are talking about having a baby within a year - so I figured this was the perfect motivation. Its day 3 today and I'm not as miserable as I thought I'd be :) Now... on to quilting!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #741b47;">First this one:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpfWXnqec0IsnJfHEthM86AT5ULQaCfCwWI26Q2Ck-q6u_hsInUtbGP6OVyzDrRQ2yIVJM14xgmFKpxHtlrGqs8TAFrqZ2wNhHNVEOj4DkrkbdvA_63KYcjSj4W7Tt9xgA-kRI_LRCs_f2/s1600/IMG_3771.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #741b47;"><img border="0" height="240" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpfWXnqec0IsnJfHEthM86AT5ULQaCfCwWI26Q2Ck-q6u_hsInUtbGP6OVyzDrRQ2yIVJM14xgmFKpxHtlrGqs8TAFrqZ2wNhHNVEOj4DkrkbdvA_63KYcjSj4W7Tt9xgA-kRI_LRCs_f2/s320/IMG_3771.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div><br />
<span style="color: #741b47;">I've been fighting my Fandango Cabins quilt all week. I originally was following a pattern, then I realized my fabrics were just too busy for that pattern. So I decided to add some simpler blocks like this one</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoOfiQ98Oar39ZNM9SdFNQqcDj-Bzzq3qCr0cvTcKUa73MOHvw-dRYjKXL-Uj-VEe7rWo1ZLuQVPWMCYvnpXl6dfgZtBaOF7SGwPkhwCDi84YSlXQRxW9omj9ff-gfpUVr14xycwc6UyRW/s1600/IMG_4349.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #741b47;"><img border="0" height="293" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoOfiQ98Oar39ZNM9SdFNQqcDj-Bzzq3qCr0cvTcKUa73MOHvw-dRYjKXL-Uj-VEe7rWo1ZLuQVPWMCYvnpXl6dfgZtBaOF7SGwPkhwCDi84YSlXQRxW9omj9ff-gfpUVr14xycwc6UyRW/s320/IMG_4349.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div><span style="color: #741b47;">I loved this block, so I made some more just like it to go with my log cabin blocks. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #741b47;">I have 2 problems though... first I have no idea what the layout should be; second I'm completely out of the blue fabric, so I have to go with what I have. (My local quilt store is out of it too and of course I wasn't smart enough to write down the name of the color off the bolt when I bought it.)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #741b47;">I have been playing with the layout a lot.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #741b47;">First sketching</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioh7oaI341LsxRqDa3WDP-eDI7UPvRMQg12KhINQOjcvfE4onzuNHW7Pia0PC0v9KtknBY1nxZDJee2lotVktwrkTkRTj_rE_Yyg2TzfI-s8S7BUqL8RVxXrisSDyKruuTRihyphenhyphen_m5GTauV/s1600/IMG_4396.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #741b47;"><img border="0" height="239" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioh7oaI341LsxRqDa3WDP-eDI7UPvRMQg12KhINQOjcvfE4onzuNHW7Pia0PC0v9KtknBY1nxZDJee2lotVktwrkTkRTj_rE_Yyg2TzfI-s8S7BUqL8RVxXrisSDyKruuTRihyphenhyphen_m5GTauV/s320/IMG_4396.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div align="center"><span style="color: #741b47;">Then on my design wall (I will add another coloumn and/or row so its 5x5 or even 5x6):</span></div><div align="center"><br />

I was not a fan of this block when it was first posted. The directions weren't as clear as I would've liked them to be, and I just wasn't sure it fit with our other 5 blocks. Time for another check in on all our WiPs for the week. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #351c75;">Since I've only been back for 2 days, I don't have a ton to report. Today I hope to get block 6 of the </span><a href="http://moosequilts.blogspot.com/2010/09/layer-cake-quilt-along-2010.html"><span style="color: #351c75;">Layer Cake Quilt Along</span></a><span style="color: #351c75;"> finished. I got block 5 done last night:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTNYp8wUzcabaPlnHvhmNY_qhyphenhyphenSfe8xWU4rNA3eEgI63o3uwVMcqa0te8BvEzHfpCXl8Mr5kwyIU_T-un4yEtnlMBjlMAym5Ig4RtxviQ5tW_77AvPFobca8W_0HRxM5H_ufh51LuG1Oqn/s1600/lcqu+block+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTNYp8wUzcabaPlnHvhmNY_qhyphenhyphenSfe8xWU4rNA3eEgI63o3uwVMcqa0te8BvEzHfpCXl8Mr5kwyIU_T-un4yEtnlMBjlMAym5Ig4RtxviQ5tW_77AvPFobca8W_0HRxM5H_ufh51LuG1Oqn/s320/lcqu+block+5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><span style="color: #351c75;">I spent a lot of time organizing yesterday so today could be a more productive day.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #351c75;">I also need to figure out which fabrics I'm going to use for the <a href="http://dontcallmebetsy.blogspot.com/p/sliced-coins-quilt-along.html">Sliced Coins Quilt Along</a>.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #351c75;">So today I'm kind of boring :) I did make a page for my WIPs that I've been updating daily. If you'd like to see that click <a href="http://embellishedbeginnings.blogspot.com/p/wips.html">here.</a> </span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #351c75;">Happy WIP Wednesday!</span>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-33005182620706613632011-01-11T21:42:00.000-08:002011-01-11T21:42:29.683-08:00LC Quilt Along Block 5<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #741b47; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I spent most of today reorganizing my sewing room (which unfortunately is our dining room at the moment) and sewing my block 5 for the <a href="http://moosequilts.blogspot.com/2010/09/layer-cake-quilt-along-2010.html">Layer Cake Quilt Along</a>. I'll be the first to admit that I was intimidated by this block. I spent a lot of time on my trip thinking about what colors to use. I am satisfied with the final turn out, although I would have loved to have used a pink or orange fabric along with these colors. Unfortunately I didn't have any layer cake squares in those colors that would work. This layer cake had a lot of stripes in it (which I really like) but I didn't want to worry about directionality with this block. </span><br />

</div>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-1283041424722621182011-01-08T01:51:00.000-08:002011-01-08T01:51:26.681-08:00I've decided!<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #cc0000;">Ok, so I've definitely decided to do Elizabeth D's <a href="http://dontcallmebetsy.blogspot.com/p/sliced-coins-quilt-along.html">Sliced Coins Quilt Along</a> over at Don't Call Me Betsy! Woohoo!! See the button to the right to join the fun.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #cc0000;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #cc0000;">I also really want to start the <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/12/sugar-pop-n-change-quilt.html#more">Suger Pop N Change</a> quilt posted over at Moda Bake Shop soon (which I already have the fabric for). I think the Sliced Coins quilt will actually be a cool compliment to make with this one. I think I'll do them as a pair and keep them for when I need a gift for a momma and baby duo. I'll make the Sliced Coins in a crib size for a little one and the Sugar Pop N Change in full size for a momma.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #cc0000;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #cc0000;">I'm still deciding on the Block-A-Palooza, I might just wait for the 1st blocks to be posted over there so I can see what direction they are going with them and how complicated they may be. My boyfriend said he'd buy my fabrics for it (I know, I'm completely spoiled!) so it'll just be a matter of whether I want to commit to something like that. I'm also still deciding about Urban Lattice... hmmm</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple;">On another note unrelated but cool note, I was able to cross off two more items from my <a href="http://embellishedbeginnings.blogspot.com/p/26-goals-for-my-26th-year.html">26 goals for my 26th year</a> list (click to read the entire list). I finally finished the 5th season of <i>Bones</i>. Netflix finally added it to their instant streaming titles and I promptly watched every episode. I think it's definitely my favorite show, tied for 1st place with <i>The Big Bang Theory.</i></span><br />
<i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple;"><br />
</span></i><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLKXml4zODSQM5v9pzCgKtZ4l8YbBxOk7K87NMUTqWQ97HjBlMVHb9rc8J5vCWcL5X2HUbcteT6Lj9udwf9YaUK0jEMRPy4aD4nHXc6rx-oVrygHebGA5MqpTCdmzYu-u6t-F6D3ExEC8k/s1600/Hunger+games.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLKXml4zODSQM5v9pzCgKtZ4l8YbBxOk7K87NMUTqWQ97HjBlMVHb9rc8J5vCWcL5X2HUbcteT6Lj9udwf9YaUK0jEMRPy4aD4nHXc6rx-oVrygHebGA5MqpTCdmzYu-u6t-F6D3ExEC8k/s200/Hunger+games.jpg" width="200" /></span></a></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: purple;">Plus I've absolutely found a new favorite author: Suzanne Collins. I recently read "<a href="http://amzn.com/0439023521">The Hunger Games</a>" by Suzanne Collins and I'm in love. Its a hard book to describe, but it's intense thats for sure. I've had a lot of time to read here in ND and I have read both "<a href="http://amzn.com/0439023521">The Hunger Games</a>" (book 1) and "<a href="http://amzn.com/0439023491">Catching Fire</a>" (book 2). I could not put them down. I stayed up for 24 hours straight finishing book 2. It's a trilogy and I can't wait to get book 3!! If you like suspenseful but amazing books, read them!!!</span>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-576560400207091802011-01-07T01:42:00.000-08:002011-01-07T01:42:33.598-08:00Another quilt along? I'm not sure...<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: x-small;"><i><b>Disclaimer: I may have taken an ambien about an hour ago.... and I didn't realize it had effected me quite this much, so please don't judge too harshly on any grammar or spelling errors. - or any place I seem to not be making sense :D</b></i></span></div><br />
<br />
So here's the deal, I am having so much fun with the Layer Cake Quilt along over at <a href="http://moosequilts.blogspot.com/">Moose on the porch quilts</a>. Luckily it's one block every two weeks... which is a great pace for me - but I also think I have time to sneak another project into my life. <br />
<br />
So now I have decisions to make. I have been interested in doing the <a href="http://www.meamomblog.com/p/urban-lattice-quilt-along.html">Urban Lattice Quilt Along</a> since I came across it a month or so ago. I have zero idea what colors I would use, but I am definitely loving the pattern, plus I love paper piecing. But I feel like coming in this late I'd be missing out on the fun of having lots of people actively participating and somewhat in the same place in their projects.<br />
<br />
I also am seeing all the talk about the <a href="http://www.quiltdad.com/p/bloggers-block-palooza-quilt-along.html">Blogger's Block-A-Palooza</a> which starts this month and has 2 blocks per week. I have fabric I could use for this one (just got some great deals on fat quarter bundles) so I wouldn't really have to worry much about that part. Although 2 blocks a week might be too much for me with my arm giving me so much trouble the last few weeks. Plus I would have to find some solids to go with my prints, which would cost even more money.<br />
<br />
Then there's the <a href="http://dontcallmebetsy.blogspot.com/2011/01/sliced-coin-quilt-along-introduction.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+DontCallMeBetsy+(Don't+Call+Me+Betsy)">Don't Call Me Betsy</a> sliced coin quilt along that Elizabeth has put together. I don't know much about this one just yet, but anything Elizabeth does I know will be awesome. <br />
<br />
Is anyone else having issues with this, or is it just me? Unfortunately I'm not able to participate in all of them because I can't buy that much fabric right now. My stash is still just a baby stash.<br />
<br />
I just don't know - I want to do all of them darn it!! Really I'm just venting, I know you guys can't make my decision for me... But any words of advice would be great. I will say I will have quite a bit of time for quilting when I get home now that my sewing room has been turned back into my sewing room instead of a formal dining room for the holidays. My boyfriend and I will hopefully be moving into our new place very soon, and he said I could have a whole room just to myself for my sewing :) He's just the best. Anyway, if any of this made sense, and you're still reading at this point, please leave me a comment and let me know which quilt alongs you guys are doing at least so I know where my Bleeps (Blog Peeps) will be.Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-62412871226874648072011-01-01T22:36:00.000-08:002011-01-01T22:36:42.611-08:00Why Am I in North Dakota?!<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hello everyone!! Happy New Year! Well I know it's been awhile, but I was very busy with the holidays (as all of you were!) and I just couldn't find time to quilt! Darn it! But now it's 2011 and I am ready to expand my quilting knowledge even more this year.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">First off, yes, I did decide to take a trip to North Dakota for 2 weeks, and I'm still here. I have good reason though, my wonderful boyfriend works over here and I really wanted to spend some time with him. Plus I got to cross off one of my goals for my 26th year. Yay. I have never been to ND before, so I get to cross off "travel to a state I've never been to."</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I got tons of amazing quilting stuff for Christmas. One of my favorite things I got was this:</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp2UFuVzNhNPDMgaJCbZMfDcqJ1xGpxjUCgUfR4pAKRtp9fHS-VZV0bCFQvUbL668UFAZexR0h-HBlgB-MpuwdK5RJ8EPPCttnTi4EtiqwMlHVo1g1V1QbBgLj1B5xfDD0YZp8e7sX-SZM/s1600/IMG_4235.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp2UFuVzNhNPDMgaJCbZMfDcqJ1xGpxjUCgUfR4pAKRtp9fHS-VZV0bCFQvUbL668UFAZexR0h-HBlgB-MpuwdK5RJ8EPPCttnTi4EtiqwMlHVo1g1V1QbBgLj1B5xfDD0YZp8e7sX-SZM/s320/IMG_4235.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I would recommend this book to any beginning quilter. It has some of the best pictures and explanations of any book I've seen. Plus the included patterns are beautiful! I'm definitely going to put at least a few of them on my 'to do' list.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I found a quilt store in the town we are in, so I'll be visiting there soon.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I wasn't able to bring any quilting along with me to ND so I've been crocheting instead. I'm almost finished with my first scarf. Its not perfect, but I like it:<br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzF6BEchhpCLDuzsO8ZUOGziOFMz5YhcAEhDzrwOGcBohYUhbn96UQaAQeHNfAyu_LAAO8q59E9RiGMpExSBCDadkJ0TnxwKjwIjXPkF8n4A34WCvcmJc1k6CQBftqp3f-y92YJ92RXTBu/s1600/IMG_4236.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzF6BEchhpCLDuzsO8ZUOGziOFMz5YhcAEhDzrwOGcBohYUhbn96UQaAQeHNfAyu_LAAO8q59E9RiGMpExSBCDadkJ0TnxwKjwIjXPkF8n4A34WCvcmJc1k6CQBftqp3f-y92YJ92RXTBu/s320/IMG_4236.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I just need to finish off the one end and sew in the tails. I found this pattern online <a href="http://suzies-yarnie-stuff.blogspot.com/2006/12/my-cross-stitch-scarf.html">here</a>. It includes cross stitches, which I had zero idea how to do, but after some youtube searching I found enough videos to help me figure it out. I like the cross stitches because they add another layer of yarn to the scarf, making it extra warm :). I had fun making this one. I'm going to make some hats next. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well thats it for now! Hope all of you have a wonderful 2011!!!</span>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-42016482889488587232010-12-20T21:19:00.000-08:002010-12-20T21:19:20.218-08:00Crochet Hand Warmers<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I came across the website <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/">Ravelry</a> and got incredibly inspired by all the fantastic projects and patterns. I have always wanted to try knitting and crocheting but because of my problem with my left hand and arm I didn't think I could do it. I'm still not sure about knitting, but I found a way to crochet! That makes me pretty happy for sure. I made my first project today:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzXbxeLBwdpNKhdng7NXHdK8JPtwhHM1mLUMEfJk1nS9lv0yC8eKyBDLNlVX9eAqopO4c1ODSPwKvWhK7Gajy6WcfRmbRzoGT6Iofs0C1YQkATIVkbT6mDx0Imy54XuFCJ0nHcO0mUPV1o/s1600/IMG_4114.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="230" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzXbxeLBwdpNKhdng7NXHdK8JPtwhHM1mLUMEfJk1nS9lv0yC8eKyBDLNlVX9eAqopO4c1ODSPwKvWhK7Gajy6WcfRmbRzoGT6Iofs0C1YQkATIVkbT6mDx0Imy54XuFCJ0nHcO0mUPV1o/s320/IMG_4114.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">These are just practice for now. The left one I made with a size H hook, and the right one a size J. My sister (my hand model for today) and I both like the one made with the smaller H hook better, but I think they would be better longer. This pattern is so, so cute!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgymtd8_0RnMWP0aBsXoTp-mHqicQ8_pA6JmjYMIOd3Nzn1ujYMUSbS23h7PdUTMkKo7UBx3Pjj6hp0_zsAdw6sS4Zvft-E61awopazODhY2nAEe-8A307f1KJ47BKm5XejRpWA1YlK1gZ2/s1600/IMG_4111.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgymtd8_0RnMWP0aBsXoTp-mHqicQ8_pA6JmjYMIOd3Nzn1ujYMUSbS23h7PdUTMkKo7UBx3Pjj6hp0_zsAdw6sS4Zvft-E61awopazODhY2nAEe-8A307f1KJ47BKm5XejRpWA1YlK1gZ2/s320/IMG_4111.JPG" width="252" /></a></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm glad I was able to find a way to crochet. I'm excited to do many more projects! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have to share this with you guys as well, as it made me laugh. I apologize in advance for my sister, but she got really tired of hand modeling...</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />

</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Guess it's time to find a new model. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">~I got some hexies basted for my <b>Grandmother's Flower Garden</b> project.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">~If you look at <a href="http://embellishedbeginnings.blogspot.com/2010/12/every-fail-is-learning-opportunityright.html">yesterday's post</a> you can see that I machine quilted something for the <i>very first time!</i> This was my first attempt at a <b>mug rug. </b>The quilting went really well...the binding on the other hand... oopsy! I still haven't un-sewn it yet, but I'll get to it. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">~On my <b>Fandango Log Cabin</b> project, I was productive, but then got discouraged again. I have 15 log cabin blocks completed, and I felt like I needed more blocks, but I didn't have any more Jelly roll strips. So I decided to at some more simple blocks to tone down the busy-ness of the log cabin blocks. This is what I came up with:</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVfQx65fgj2E8zO3leFMi_xbzCUO90uxQWS80BgRxyJJ1oHVfB2E0wxzWBoVF6y0j27Jx-eTYLb8Cda7F_1NBdcvnjFqJMJhf-HqH6LCcohbCl-wO4iln89j9K38UmdMHw-PWwpt335x_O/s1600/IMG_4068.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVfQx65fgj2E8zO3leFMi_xbzCUO90uxQWS80BgRxyJJ1oHVfB2E0wxzWBoVF6y0j27Jx-eTYLb8Cda7F_1NBdcvnjFqJMJhf-HqH6LCcohbCl-wO4iln89j9K38UmdMHw-PWwpt335x_O/s320/IMG_4068.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Excuse the random straight pin on the block... my cat batted it onto the block right as I snapped the picture! Here's where <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">I </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;">really need your advice!</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Do you like the simple block next to the log cabin?? Is the white too white? The white in the fandango fabric is more of an off white, but I've seen fandango paired with white successfully before. I just don't know!! </span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">~<b>The Moose on the Porch layer cake quilt along</b> (see button on the right) I finished block #4 this morning at around 4am. I really like how this one turned out. I'm so enjoying this quilt along. The blocks are so much fun and I'm so in love with this Happy fabric!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />

</span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, that was my week :) I hope everyone had a wonderful past week! Happy WiP Wednesday everyone!</span>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-11222364292502622232010-12-14T16:55:00.000-08:002010-12-14T16:55:42.324-08:00Every fail is a learning opportunity...right?<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I posted about a wall hanging I'm working on last week. I was going to use that to practice my first machine quilting. After getting it all put together, though, I didn't want it to be my first attempt, because I figured I'd mess it up. So I decided to throw together a little mug rug and quilt that first. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It actually went together very easily, especially since I just used scraps from my stash. I used my walking foot to quilt straight lines about a half an inch apart. I used the thread that I want to use on my wall hanging so I could get the feel of it. I think the quilting itself went pretty well. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigiQ7TK67f4lZ6pu2WyFDlgb4KpzL-T8x7mMcWbV5rYZRA4JYEQT-kBqGvecoIU8QE1_t67BaNU7Vbkn-k8vN9sBy2AEnoaNEovjfJJJaNUNOJw42WViWQ81s96ZgulqizT24xSBPVtTXz/s1600/IMG_4044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="216" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigiQ7TK67f4lZ6pu2WyFDlgb4KpzL-T8x7mMcWbV5rYZRA4JYEQT-kBqGvecoIU8QE1_t67BaNU7Vbkn-k8vN9sBy2AEnoaNEovjfJJJaNUNOJw42WViWQ81s96ZgulqizT24xSBPVtTXz/s320/IMG_4044.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Not the prettiest thing in the world, but its just a practice run. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaRud5Nz0MafMlKeEYgY3wSR7XYWGSFeBnI-py7cRmJmtQnzIdx74BzWHdUA4VmOOVfon_-rXCAFW2tWdZSG1QKuaTe0u-WKQt0bP7Tb3lciCBJ_jfEDGCfDNE7DZ7P9fmDwwiIem0K4tO/s1600/IMG_4054.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaRud5Nz0MafMlKeEYgY3wSR7XYWGSFeBnI-py7cRmJmtQnzIdx74BzWHdUA4VmOOVfon_-rXCAFW2tWdZSG1QKuaTe0u-WKQt0bP7Tb3lciCBJ_jfEDGCfDNE7DZ7P9fmDwwiIem0K4tO/s320/IMG_4054.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So then today I decided to bind this little mug rug. I measured, cut, pressed, and pinned... everything set. The sewing itself went really well with my walking foot. And when I was done I went to pin the binding to the other side and start my hand sewing... Then I realized something was a bit wrong...</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo6lcDd0f-qBpMPB7-eqhNOUZnzkhApVV7xE9GvSj4fg5ZyzgtHS-JY5c84cR7Z6kewcsYPforwXePKKXyXZFDPv2VscS-NNXlIgxtH31Tnk7cHpv-l4a_eVW1tuh9pkId2y3rxZ4HmBHP/s1600/IMG_4049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo6lcDd0f-qBpMPB7-eqhNOUZnzkhApVV7xE9GvSj4fg5ZyzgtHS-JY5c84cR7Z6kewcsYPforwXePKKXyXZFDPv2VscS-NNXlIgxtH31Tnk7cHpv-l4a_eVW1tuh9pkId2y3rxZ4HmBHP/s320/IMG_4049.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white; color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Fail! I don't think I was supposed to sew that flap down - ha ha! It was my first try, so I guess I can't kick myself too hard. So now my seam ripper and I have a date later.</span>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-14106990042023216332010-12-08T16:19:00.000-08:002010-12-08T16:19:45.564-08:00Great Give Away!<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I found this great give away and wanted to share it with my readers (and get another chance to win hehe). Head over to <a href="http://straystitches1.blogspot.com/2010/11/big-giveaway.html">Stray Stitches</a> and enter. It's a "<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 24px;">mostly complete set of</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 24px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 24px;"><a href="http://www.thimbleberriesquiltclub.com/index.cfm" style="text-decoration: none;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">Thimbleberries Quilt Club</span> </a></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 24px;">2006 BOM Quilt Kit"! Isn't that a great give away? I think so! Thanks Linda!</span></span>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-25952900339080635062010-12-08T02:43:00.000-08:002010-12-08T02:43:53.035-08:00WIP Wednesday<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I tend to plan things, but never really get them done lol. Life gets in the way, or I get distracted by some other project. I was supposed to go to North Dakota this week where I was going to get a lot done on my Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. Neither of those things happened. My trip (and my progress) is rescheduled for later this month.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The only WIP I have to report this week is this:</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk6h88GLn9tUK8Svnc432u4wWOHnmgR7xhDoM6uJHrKZL5N3MbZM3wygoe3WQOr9_vaiICDbCPGziIoWA9F0WATJ0D5olHLQ-Avy9APrJccMnafNYELeAzqkqcHWi124dbyUlFZ7uyZxH7/s1600/IMG_3992.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk6h88GLn9tUK8Svnc432u4wWOHnmgR7xhDoM6uJHrKZL5N3MbZM3wygoe3WQOr9_vaiICDbCPGziIoWA9F0WATJ0D5olHLQ-Avy9APrJccMnafNYELeAzqkqcHWi124dbyUlFZ7uyZxH7/s320/IMG_3992.JPG" width="165" /></span></a></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It's a wall hanging that I measured out for a specific place on my wall (that's why it's long and skinny). I love these fabrics! I'm going to use it to practice quilting with my machine, which I've never attempted before. I'm just going to do straight lines either horizontally or vertically, I haven't decided yet.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I did get some decorating done, the lights are up on the house and the trees are both up and lit, they are just waiting for ornaments.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hope everyone had a more productive week than I did!</span>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-73016374535004760142010-12-06T21:20:00.000-08:002010-12-06T21:20:44.396-08:00I'm still here....<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, I swear!! My boyfriend, Eddie, was in town this week (he is only in town one week at a time since he works out of state) so I was spending as much time with him as possible. I've also been feeling really crappy so I haven't been doing much quilting. Eddie did surprise me with 2 dozen roses yesterday - so that made me feel better :) He's amazing.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I did get some quilting done late last night, which I will post pictures of when it looks like something other than stacks of squares. Its a mini quilt that I'm making to practice my machine quilting - which I've never done before! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have had a chance to look at some blogs, and everyone's productivity is very inspiring! Tomorrow I will get the house decorated for Christmas. (Thats what I keep telling myself) We've got both trees up, just not decorated yet and all the boxes of decorations for the house are out, just not put up. So I'm half way there!</span>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-77247507984838969492010-12-02T02:21:00.000-08:002010-12-03T00:19:24.858-08:00To my readers...<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This will be a personal post, but one I want to share with my readers, to say thank you.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">First, a bit of background: I was born with a condition called lymphangioma. When I was born it wasn't so bad, but I did have a few surgeries and some pain. In 2007 I had a follow up surgery to address some issues that needed to be corrected. Unfortunately complications from that surgery have left me with debilitating pain, blood clots and the loss of most of the use of my left hand. I had to quit my 5 year banking job, and grew apart from many of my friends. I don't expect people to understand constant pain, and I know its hard to believe me when I cancel plans all the time because of it. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So the last year or so, I've felt very alone. Then, a few months ago, I discovered that I loved quilting. I don't even know why I started, or what inspired me at first, but I knew the minute I picked up my first fat quarter that I was in love. I started getting out of bed more, just to sew for even 15 minutes if thats all I could manage. I feel creative and productive for the first time in over a year.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then I started blogging. I've always loved to write, but I didn't have anything to write about that I felt others would like to read. Now that I've discovered the online quilting community I don't feel so alone any more. It might sound cheesy, but it's how I truly feel. Not only do I have people to share my work with, but every day I find a new blog with ideas and beautiful works of art from people who have something in common with little ol' me. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So to my readers, I say thank you. And to those who blog, thank you too. I have something to look forward to daily now. Even as I sit here in pain I can read others' blogs and get lost in the beautiful projects that I see. Its so good to have something I can focus on beside my disability.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Ok, enough sappy stuff - just wanted to thank the people who need thanking in my life!</span>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-52641000478616415942010-12-01T02:52:00.000-08:002010-12-01T02:52:16.962-08:00WIP Wednesday<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><b><i>Happy December!</i></b></span></span></span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">Well it's 3 am, so it's technically Wednesday, so its time for a WiP post. So far my week has consisted of:</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">Fandango Jelly Roll Quilt: </span></span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"> Has been put away in frustration. I looked at the fabric store and just couldn't find a solid (even the white looked funny) that complimented it. Then I found a print that was tone on tone that looked great color wise, but it was butterflies...which doesn't really go with the "Spanish pottery" type look that the Fandango fabric has. But I'm sure if I put it away for a few weeks, and stop looking at it so much I'll find something that looks great.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt: </span></span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">I'm happy to say I found some <i>great</i> fabrics for my flowers this week.</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFiWul4VHkVkypO2-8GnNX1mAJZ-6g-GzPSoTWKuePM-aoY7ynNgD7MBdc5DvQ5bIRsQPiqEaoPv9myNaPVhyphenhyphenqapY-AJiC9yO9cN9WE7mn0pd6QnkKRCThdcO60ghBN-DPX1eaczAHzwH8/s1600/IMG_3980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFiWul4VHkVkypO2-8GnNX1mAJZ-6g-GzPSoTWKuePM-aoY7ynNgD7MBdc5DvQ5bIRsQPiqEaoPv9myNaPVhyphenhyphenqapY-AJiC9yO9cN9WE7mn0pd6QnkKRCThdcO60ghBN-DPX1eaczAHzwH8/s320/IMG_3980.JPG" width="320" /></span></span></a></div><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">My goal for this week will be to get <i>two</i> more 'flowers' completed. I'm working at a pace of about one per week and if I'm going to do 49 of these darn things I'm going to have to pick up the pace if I want to get done within a year of starting it!</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">Layer Cake Quilt Along: </span></span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">This week I did all 3 blocks for the quilt along at <a href="http://moosequilts.blogspot.com/">Moose on the Porch Quilts</a>, since I just joined. I just completed #3 about 20 minutes ago. I love these "Happy" fabrics by Me and My Sister designs. Every fabric is great in my layer cake! Here is block #3</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5ZDJN-znzFKO9O5nhgl74JpzgKXN8QIdEa8pBcCI654biDi7obSS9b3Qe9Kizr1L0-Mriv-yuGrJY12mFlwTd5K269tKCn_aoqqvk1QsrdYM4bqLUvXvfqbxvM7yvAN-9_bAA6OrYtifO/s1600/IMG_3966.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5ZDJN-znzFKO9O5nhgl74JpzgKXN8QIdEa8pBcCI654biDi7obSS9b3Qe9Kizr1L0-Mriv-yuGrJY12mFlwTd5K269tKCn_aoqqvk1QsrdYM4bqLUvXvfqbxvM7yvAN-9_bAA6OrYtifO/s320/IMG_3966.JPG" width="320" /></span></span></a></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">I thought about the fabrics in this one a lot and I'm glad I decided on the purple. Purple is one of my favorite colors, and I really like how this turned out. Now I just have to be patient and wait for the next block to be posted in 2 weeks. Here are my 3 blocks together:</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span></span><br />

</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">So that was pretty much my week.. We have about 2 feet of snow so far this week, with more falling right now. It's a great way to start December!</span></span><br />

Being a night owl really does have it's benefits! :) Plus, it's so much easier to get a lot done after midnight. Everyone (including the 3 dogs and 3 cats) is sleeping and there are far less distractions. My favorite thing is putting my netflix on next to the sewing machine and just sewing for a few hours. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">Anyway, this is what I got done tonight. These are my <i>very first</i> half square triangles. I had a bit of stretching, which I've heard is common, and they aren't perfect, but I really like the block. I originally was going to do light orange where the green is, but I like the green a lot. I'm glad I went with it instead.</span><br />

Yay. Except I apparently didn't have a good enough plan because I had no idea what to get when I got there. I did pick up a layer cake (see below) and a few more fat quarters for my Grandmother's Flower Garden blocks. I did find out that <a href="http://www.glacierquilts.com/">Glacier Quilts</a> carries the Hoffman screen prints I was looking for, so I'm really happy about that. They also sell one of my 'to do' patterns in a kit. Yay! </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">So I came across the <a href="http://moosequilts.blogspot.com/2010/09/layer-cake-quilt-along-2010.html">Layer Cake Quilt Along</a> last week, and I couldn't resist joining the fun! I am a couple of weeks behind so I'm playing catch up right now. I just finished the 1st block:</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />

It's the first appliqué I've ever done. I am really excited about this quilt along, it's the first I've ever done, too! </span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />

I'm going to try to get the 2nd block done tonight so I'm all caught up with the quilt along when they post the new block tomorrow. I put the button on the right side of my blog so if you want to join the fun, just click that button! </span></span></div>Anniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07465857603864619516noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-477186833030645142.post-68440803875090416092010-11-28T23:17:00.000-08:002010-11-28T23:17:23.261-08:00Cuddled up but productive<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well the 26 degree weather and horrible roads have had me cuddled up on the couch with my heated blanket today. I did manage to get something done tonight though. I've been working on my next block for my Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt.</span></span><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2_XMAYrA6tnf1oNa6FAnvlWN1lFBZ9Ck0vesIGhHiQePC-Q95De2-8rnb_ULcp97GJYPQa8b5QcjI_RTpZFB4Z4vOLFpF6zI-0rAAfaQ4XltEs6ibw34QudCVuWdYb-mmF5sLj7gFixB5/s1600/IMG_3898.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2_XMAYrA6tnf1oNa6FAnvlWN1lFBZ9Ck0vesIGhHiQePC-Q95De2-8rnb_ULcp97GJYPQa8b5QcjI_RTpZFB4Z4vOLFpF6zI-0rAAfaQ4XltEs6ibw34QudCVuWdYb-mmF5sLj7gFixB5/s320/IMG_3898.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
</div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">I absolutely love the color orange! I was really excited about this fabric when I bought it, and it turned out really pretty with the fairy frost. </span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><br />
</span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;">So someone pointed out the black strings on one of my earlier posts. They are basting threads and you don't take them out until the end. I'm probably more</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> paranoid about my stuff than some people and I don't want to take them out until the last minute. I have 49 of these to make, and only 3 done. I think they will keep their shape much better if I keep the papers and basting in. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Just in case your curious this is what the back looks like:</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhsWlmw73qSGfcGsUZueaV37OdIdtX73Ui0xWk2rUmzsaPKZLAuvkYHLUKk8I5tIJLAu7BpOvcSxZrZ7tB8tg4RIzFkXtPu9ZMadCRfxPvW7Cdca5FWmwvQC3m81WC60dotBrkyZXK-Ela/s1600/IMG_3899.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhsWlmw73qSGfcGsUZueaV37OdIdtX73Ui0xWk2rUmzsaPKZLAuvkYHLUKk8I5tIJLAu7BpOvcSxZrZ7tB8tg4RIzFkXtPu9ZMadCRfxPvW7Cdca5FWmwvQC3m81WC60dotBrkyZXK-Ela/s320/IMG_3899.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />

</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In honor of my orange block I thought I'd post a picture of my big orange kitty!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br />
